Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 15, 2026

Smart Tide shows tide predictions for stations published by government agencies. It has no account, no sign‑up and no login. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third‑party SDKs of any kind — we have not built a way to learn anything about you, and there is no server of ours anywhere in the app.

What follows is the whole story, not a summary.

We operate no server

The app talks directly to three public tide agencies and to nobody else:

A request carries a station identifier and a date range. That is all it carries. Those agencies see the request and, as with any internet request, the IP address it came from; their handling of it is governed by their own policies, not ours. We receive nothing, because nothing is routed through us.

Your location never leaves the device

If you allow location access, the app uses your coordinates for exactly one thing: comparing them against the station list already on your device to find the closest one. That comparison happens on the phone. Your coordinates are not sent to the tide agencies, not sent to us, and not written to any file that leaves the device.

Location is optional. Declining it costs you the “find the nearest station” shortcut and nothing else — every station remains reachable by map or search.

Permissions the app asks for

PermissionWhy
Location (while in use)To pick the tide station nearest you. Compared on‑device against the bundled station list; never transmitted. Optional.
NotificationsTo deliver the tide alerts you create. Alerts are scheduled locally by iOS on your device — there is no push server, so no alert of yours is ever known to us. Optional.

The app does not request the camera, the microphone, photos, contacts, the calendar, Bluetooth, or your health data.

What is stored, and where

Everything the app remembers stays on your device and in your own iCloud backup if you have one:

Some of this is written to a shared app group so the widgets, the Live Activity and the Apple Watch app can read the same values. That group is private to Smart Tide. Data sent to your Apple Watch travels directly between your devices over Apple’s connectivity framework; it does not pass through us.

Deleting the app removes all of it.

Purchases

Smart Tide Pro is a one‑time purchase sold through Apple’s in‑app purchase system. Apple handles the payment. We never see your card details and receive no personal information from the transaction. Restoring a purchase is handled entirely by Apple against your Apple Account.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. Since it collects nothing, it collects nothing from them either.

Your choices

Location and notifications can be turned off at any time in iOS Settings ▸ Smart Tide. The app keeps working without both.

There is no data deletion request to make, because there is no account and no record of you on our side to delete. If you would like us to confirm that in writing, ask at the address below and we will.

Safety

Tide predictions are astronomical forecasts. Real water levels are shifted by weather, atmospheric pressure and storm surge, and when the app cannot reach an agency it falls back to computing the curve on‑device from harmonic constants. Do not rely on Smart Tide alone where being wrong is dangerous. For navigation, use official charts and notices.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the effective date above and note the change in the app’s release notes.
